            St. Michael's Cathedral is the mother church and spiritual home of all the members of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Coimbatore! It is the new home of the Cathedral parish community as it cements the bonds that make up our one faith-community from the Diocese, 78 separate parishes and thousands of worshippers  - from seven vicariates.

            The proposed Cathedral Project will be one of the largest, most important and most enduring projects ever to be undertaken in the Diocese of Coimbatore.  The importance of the Cathedral, not just to Catholics but to the entire community, has been confirmed by extensive community consultation.  That consultation made it clear that the community not only wants the new Cathedral to be built on the same site, but that catches the eye, inspires the soul, and becomes an icon recognized and renowned far and wide. Some even suggest that it should be a Basilica! It must be designed to meet many architectural and functional challenges, with the flexibility for future developments to meet the needs of future generations. We are at it.

            Our vision is to respond to the wish of the community, expressed in wide-spread consultation, that a new iconic Cathedral be built.  The new Cathedral will be a striking memorial of the present community to the future generations. The new Cathedral will also be a significant landmark and attract visitors from far and wide. After extensive community consultation, the vision to rebuild the Cathedral project includes some very clear objectives.

• A new Cathedral centered on the same axis at Big Bazaar Street, Coimbatore’s main thoroughfare.
• A mixture of modern and traditional appearance, including a prominent and welcoming entrance, a bigger dome, two smaller domes as bell towers and eco-friendly environment of the whole campus.
• An attractive, impressive Cathedral that will inspire the visitor and withstand the test of time.

          For the next three centuries, it will be a monument to the spirit of the Diocese of Coimbatore, a beacon of spiritual guidance for millions of people and a provider of essential pastoral and spiritual services for generations to come.   In the future thousands of people will visit the new Cathedral, thousands of couples will stand before the Alter to exchange their wedding vows thousands of babies will receive baptism here. Further thousands will receive first communion and young people will reaffirm their commitment to God through confirmation. It will also be a grand send off to those who depart the world for their heavenly abode.

          With your generous support, the 'Rebuilding the Cathedral with the people' Campaign will make the new Cathedral a robust, vital and dynamic spiritual and cultural focal point.

This new Cathedral will be:

• The Mother Church of the Catholic Diocese of Coimbatore.
• An iconic landmark of historical and cultural significance.
• A centre of Christian values and community hospitality.
• A centre for education and service to those in need.
• A place where people gather to celebrate their greatest joys, seek comfort during their times of deepest sorrow, and come together for religious and civic occasions.

            The total cost of the Construction of the Cathedral with its infrastructures has been estimated to 10 Crores (100 million rupees INR). Three years will be the duration to complete the entire planned interventions in the Campus and the unit cost would be Rs, 2000 per Sq. Ft. We earnestly request and sincerely appreciate your generous contribution in the multiples of the prescribed unit and stand by us in your prayers!
